Programme themes and topics
Theme: Different Pasts, Shared Future
The main themes and
messages of Refugee Week are:
- The contribution of refugees: refugees make a
huge contribution to the UK - socially, culturally and economically
- Mutual benefit: British people and
refugees learn and benefit from each other
- Friendship: with the friendship of British
people, refugees are able to better and more quickly rebuild their
lives, and to offer so much more.
Topics
Within these overall themes, we are recording items on a range of
topics, including:
- Arts, literature and music - interviews
with refugee artists, writers and musicians, plus reviews and previews
of some of the arts events taking place during Refugee Week
- Community events - send details of your
event for our 'what's on' publicity bulletins; plus: take this
opportunity to tell us about the day-to-day work of your organisation.
- Education - refugee children and their
needs/experiences; refugee teachers and their experiences of working
or looking for work in the UK
- Environment and climate change - the
link between over-consumption by rich countries and population
displacement in poorer countries is becoming all too clear. Join this
important debate - tell your story if you, or members of your family,
have been personally affected by environmental degradation or climate
change.
- Immigration - reports and debate on the
issues and related campaigns including those focusng on detention,
anti-deportation, the regularisation of undocumented migrants etc
- Refugee and migrant support - the work
of the many organisations around the country who help refugees, asylum
seekers and migrants on practical matters such as health, education,
language, housing etc.
